Driver arrested on Hwy 97 in Kelowna, impairment suspected

Erratic driver arrested

UPDATE 1:55 p.m.

The Kelowna RCMP say they received multiple reports of an erratic driver travelling southbound on Highway 97 near McCurdy Rd. just after noon.

Officers flooded the area and caught up to the Dodge Durango near the intersection of Hwy 33 and Hwy 97 N.

“The driver, a 38-year-old female from the Kelowna area, was arrested at the scene,” said Const. Solana Paré. “Preliminary findings indicate that impairment may be a factor.”

There were no injuries reported and the investigation remains ongoing.

UPDATE 1:05 p.m.

An SUV stopped in a turning lane on Highway 97 near Banks Road is being searched by RCMP officers.

The SUV, which has Manitoba plates, does not appear to have been involved in a collision and was boxed in by several RCMP cruisers.

A woman, presumably the driver, was taken away in handcuffs from the scene.

Traffic is now getting by again as the incident is confined mostly to the turning lane.

Castanet will request more information from the Kelowna RCMP.

ORIGINAL 12:50 p.m.

Traffic is moving slow through the intersection of Highway 97 and Highway 33 in Kelowna.

Motorists tell Castanet an incident in the area is causing significant delays. A woman was taken away in handcuffed as a result of the incident.
