Kelowna's Bananatag merges with German company Staffbase

Comms world goes Bananas

Kelowna’s Bananatag has merged with a German company to create the world’s largest internal communication software company.

Bananatag, which was incorporated in 2011 and received plenty of guidance from Accelerate Okanagan, has joined with Staffbase, which is based in Chemnitz, Germany, and has offices in Amsterdam, Cologne, Dresden, Berlin, London, Munich, and New York City.

The new company, which will continue under the Staffbase brand, will consist of 450 employees in 11 locations, including Kelowna.

“This is an amazing day for Bananatag,” Bananatag CEO and co-founder Corey Wagner said in a press release. “Our people are incredibly proud of the brand we’ve built and the many customers we have the privilege of serving.

“We couldn’t be more excited to take this giant leap forward for our customers and the internal communication field.”

The new company has more than 1,000 clients, who have never had to rely on internal communication more than they have during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This merger is fantastic news for our customers,” Staffbase CEO and co-founder Martin Böhringer said. “It will broaden our platform to include email, employee app, intranet, chat and deep integrations with Slack and Microsoft 365–including Teams and SharePoint.”

Bananatag, which moved into the Innovation Centre in August 2017 with 42 employees, has been on the rise for several years, most recently being named to Deloitte’s North American Fast 500 list of fastest growing companies.
