No new COVID-19 cases in entire week at Big White

No new cases at Big White

There have been no new COVID-19 cases linked to the Big White community cluster in the past week.

Interior Health said Friday just five of 237 total cluster cases remain active.

Earlier this month health officials said they are not eager to formally declare the community cluster at Big White “over” and that it will likely remain classified as active for some time.

"We don't want to give the impression that people can go back to what they did before,” said IH chief medical health officer Dr. Albert de Villiers on Feb. 18.

"We need people to still be vigilant. We know it's a high risk area because we know people are in close proximity in some of the housing conditions.”

Interior Health said most of the transmission related to the Big White cluster occurred at social events and gatherings. The next update on the cluster is due in one week.

Of the 237 cases of COVID-19 linked to the cluster, 150 have resided and/or worked at the hill.
