The Kelowna Fire Department acted fast on Sunday evening to extinguish a vehicle fire on Chamberlain Road.
According to a statement from Platoon Captain Tim Light, the fire broke out just before 7:30 p.m. Crews arrived to find a cube van with heavy fire showing from the engine and passenger areas.
"Crews used a single handline to extinguish the fire. Some smoke and heat did reach the equipment area
in the back of the vehicle but minimal equipment was damaged," he said.
While most of the equipment was saved, the front end of the vehicle was seriously damaged.
According to witnesses, the fire sparked in the lower engine compartment area. This incident has not been deemed suspicious because it was likely the result of a failed block heater.
