Kelowna has welcomed another film shoot and this time its a Christmas movie

Christmas movie shoot

If you’ve noticed strangely placed snow and a film crew in the Pandosy area, that’s because another movie is being shot in Kelowna and this time its a Christmas movie.

Reel One Entertainment anticipates it will film between 10 and 12 movies throughout the Okanagan this year.

Filming for Christmas Au Pair started on Jan. 25 and has taken place in the Kettle Valley, Pandosy and Mission areas, with filming wrapping up today at the Okanagan Mission Community Hall.

“We’ve created a little indoor Christmas market and we’ve brought some snow down from the mountains and outside there’s a Christmas tree,” explains producer Costa Vassos.

The movie is a lighthearted Christmas tale which will be released in December ahead of the holidays.

Reel One Entertainment will be starting filming for a second flick called Falling for Christmas on Feb. 22 in Kelowna.

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Reel One says it has established safety and sanitization policies to ensure filming happens safely.

Minimal cast and crew members are on set at a time to reduce the amount of contact and between sets and everything is sanitized.

And, according to the Okanagan Film Commission (OFC), the pandemic has allowed the local film industry to explode, making it a hot spot for producers from Hollywood.

The OFC served 104 location requests in the Okanagan in 2020 with 25 productions being filmed here.

The Kelowna Castanet office was even transformed into a public relations agency based out of Portland, Oregon, for a locally shot movie back in November 2020.
