A new Toyota dealership fronting Hwy 97 in Kelowna approved

Kelowna Toyota is the latest car dealership looking to establish a more high profile presence.

City council Monday approved a development permit for the dealership and service centre at 1624 Cary Road in what was the site of Western RV.

"This would see the redevelopment of some existing buildings on the property, removal of those buildings and the construction of a new dealership," said city planner Dean Strachan.

The new dealership, replacing Toyota's current location on Leathead Road, would be situated next to the new Hyundai property, approved late last fall.

Strachan says planning staff worked with the applicant on the design, particularly the landscaping, which he says will improve the landscape along that corridor of highway.

Over the last three years or so we have seen more and more properties along the highway upgraded, and landscaping focus has greatly improved the entrance and the gateway coming into the city," said Coun. Luke Stack.

"This is just another one that is improving that whole entry as you leave the airport coming into the city."
