An overnight structure fire in Kelowna is being considered suspicious in nature.
At 1:50 a.m. Tuesday, Kelowna Fire Dispatch received a 911 call reporting flames coming from the exterior of a garage on the 3500 block of Reekie Road in East Kelowna.
First arriving crews confirmed heavy, black smoke and flames extending from a garage attached to a single-storey residence.
A offensive fire attack was deployed to control the fire and keep it from extending into the house, says Platoon Capt. Kelly Stephens.
The building sustained fire damage to the garage and attic area.
One resident and dog got out safely with no injuries and are in the care of Emergency Support Services.
Four engines, a command unit and rescue truck responded to the incident with 16 fire personnel. RCMP, paramedics and FortisBC assisted on scene.
RCMP are investigating the fire.
