RCMP rescue two stranded motorists from Kelowna backcountry

Pair rescued on rural road

A couple was rescued after their vehicle got stuck on an Okanagan forest service road on Saturday night.

A Vernon man called the Kelowna RCMP at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 after he and his wife got stuck on a rural forest service road east of Kelowna.

The man's cellphone was about to die and they said they were extremely cold.

Officers drove as far as they could to their reported location and hiked approximately half a kilometre until they located the couple in their vehicle. RCMP hiked back with the pair and ensured that they got home safely.

“We are extremely happy that this situation resolved itself safely,” says Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy of the Kelowna RCMP.

“It is another example of the importance of knowing the conditions and being prepared for the elements before you head out on any excursion.”
