Cannabis Corner is seeking to open a cannabis retail store in the Blue Heights Park

New cannabis store sought

A new player in the cannabis retail business is looking to put down roots in Kelowna.

Owners of Cannabis Corner are hoping to establish a cannabis retail store in the Blue Heights Park at the corner of Highway 97 and McCurdy.

In its application, company spokesman Clint Gavel says Cannabis Corner has operated for the past two years in Fort St. John.

"They’re responsibilities within the industry regarding safety, security, professionalism, and education will continue with this proposed store," the application read in part.

"The store will be clean, bright, and welcoming, providing customers with a safe alternative. Storefront windows and doors will be obscured complying with all legislation. "

If eventually approved, Gavel says the store will employ up to 10 full-time staff, as well as providing temporary employment while the space is renovated.

He further states the store would bring public security and rejuvenation to the industrial park.

Before being issued a business license, the property in question will first have to go through a rezoning process.

The city's policy is to not allow cannabis retail stores within 500 metres of one another.

At the present time, no other retail store has been licensed by the city, or the province within that radius.

The application will need to make its way through the internal pipeline before making its way to council.
