A staff member at Kelowna's Real Canadian Superstore has recently tested positive for COVID-19.
Loblaws, the grocery store chain's parent company, posted a notice about the case on its website Saturday, alerting the public that the employee last worked at the store on Nov. 23. This isn't the first time a staff member at the store has tested positive.
Loblaws, along with Sobeys, have been alerting the public about staff members who've contracted the virus, something B.C.'s health authorities have chosen not to do.
The new case in Kelowna comes as several grocery store employees in the Lower Mainland, particularly in Surrey and Vancouver, recently tested positive for the virus.
The following stores are affected:
- Safeway, 6564 East Hastings Street, Burnaby: The last day the employee worked was Nov. 20.
- Safeway, 1766 Robson Street, Vancouver: The last day the employee worked was Nov. 18.
- FreshCo, 7165, 138 Street, Surrey: The last day the employee worked was Nov. 18.
- Safeway, 2101 Lahb Avenue, Vancouver: The last day the employee worked was Nov. 24.
- Safeway, 1780 East Broadway, Vancouver: The last day the employee worked was Nov. 19.
- Real Canadian Superstore, 14650 104th Ave, Surrey: The last day the team member worked was on Nov. 24.
- Real Canadian Superstore, 8195 120th Street, Delta: The last day the team member worked was on Nov. 24.
- Joti's No Frills, 310 West Broadway, Vancouver: The last day the team member worked was on Nov. 23
- Real Canadian Superstore, 2332 160th Street, Surrey: The last day the team members worked were on Nov. 18 and Nov. 21.
None of these Sobeys- or Loblaw-owned stores are considered public exposure sites by Vancouver Coastal Health or Fraser Health.
On Friday, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported there had been 911 new COVID-19 cases in B.C. in the previous 24-hour period, a new daily high.
Henry will present updated B.C. COVID-19 case numbers reflecting the period between Friday and Monday during a live press conference at 3 p.m. Monday.
