Search and Rescue involved in three long weekend incidents

Busy weekend for COSAR

Central Okanagan Search and Rescue crews were kept hopping throughout the BC Day long weekend.

Crews were called out to assist three incidents during the weekend, including two within minutes of each other.

According to COSAR officials, the team was called out to a report of a sinking boat with 10 people on board near Prichard Drive in West Kelowna.

However, they were told to stand down when it was reported all 10 had safely made it to shore.

About 20 minutes later, they were called out to a report of an injured ATVer in the hills above West Kelowna near Bear Lake.

The man had severely injured his arm, and companions were concerned for his safety.

While COSAR sent 20 ground searchers into the area, Wildcat Helicopters were dispatched in hopes they could extract the man before darkness fell.

The helicopter medical crew managed to extract the subject just before dusk and transported him to awaiting BCEHS ambulance where he was taken to KGH.

COSAR personnel also spent three days aiding in the search for a missing cliff diver off Squally Point.
