Big White Ski Resort announces return of Slopestyle event

Slopestyle back at Big White

Big White Ski Resort has announced the return of its Slopestyle event this September, redesigned just for riders with no crowds in attendance.

Earlier this year, the resort made the difficult decision to put Freeride Days and the Big White Invitational Slopestyle on pause for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now some of the top local riders will be back for the reimagined event on Friday, Sept. 4 and Saturday, Sept. 5, hosted by Tom van Steenbergen and in partnership with LOFT Bike Parks.

Big White has two incredible slopestyle courses set up for the two-day event, which first began two years ago with a goal to grow a bigger and better slopestyle scene in Canada.

"The crew at Loft Bike Parks and many of the athletes that we've worked with these past few years, have become part of our bike family," reads a statement from Bike Big White.

"We've missed not being able to have them on the mountain every day this year. When we heard they were putting together some fun local BC contests - there was no question, this was something we were excited to be a part of and exactly the vibe that we want to bring to this years laid back rider focused event."

The Open Men's and Women's Slopestyle bronze course will take place on Friday, Sept. 4 and registration opens August 1.

Saturday's schedule will focus on the Invitational Slopestyle gold/pro course event, including wildcards from the Open event and Lots of Fun Things Tour series events, which take place on Vancouver Island Aug. 1-2 and in Abbotsford Aug. 22-23.

Loft Bike Parks' Austin Davignon says his team are looking forward to getting together for the upcoming events.

"Due to so much uncertainty this summer we decided it was time we made something certain. Something fun. The Lots of Fun Things Tour! We wanted to bring the people back together in the form of fun, laid back contests. Two invitationals for the boys and a grand finale at Big White for everyone! Hope to see you there!"

Big White's slopestyle centre bronze course will be open to the public every Friday night for Friday Freeride Sessions leading up to the main event, giving riders a chance to work on their skills.
