Struck cyclist caught on video
A cyclist escaped serious injuries after she was hit by an SUV near Kelowna's North End Thursday afternoon.
Just before 4:45 p.m., a group of cyclists were headed northbound on Richter Street, crossing Clement Avenue on a green light. As the lead cyclist in the group entered the intersection, a woman driving a Hyundai Santa Fe turned right from Richter onto Clement, hitting the lead cyclist.
Const. Solana Pare of the Kelowna RCMP said the 48-year-old cyclist was treated for minor injuries at the scene, before she was taken to Kelowna General Hospital by ambulance for “further assessment.”
“The RCMP would like to remind drivers to be extra mindful of the increased number of cyclists sharing our roadways this time of year,” Const. Pare said.
The 55-year-old driver of the SUV remained on scene and fully co-operated with police. She was given a violation ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act for failing to yield at a green light.
