Popular Kelowna orchard invites families this Canada Day

Don-O-Ray petting zoo open

If you're looking for something fun to do with the kids this Canada Day, Don-O-Ray's petting zoo is open and ready to entertain.

The Kelowna zoo has been open for just one week, with special COVID-19 restrictions in place such as physical distancing and staff wearing masks.

As part of the Farm Adventure, visitors can feed the farm animals, navigate the Hedge Maze, throw a horseshoe and even get an airbrushed tattoo.

The farm features different kinds of chickens, ducks, a pony, rabbits and peafowl.

Mark Peterson, who oversees the Farm Adventure, says he consistently hears from parents requests to get a season pass, and comments like 'I can't get my children to leave.'

It's not just for kids, either. Families, seniors and visitors of all ages are welcome.

"You’re never too old to pet a bunny," says Peterson.

"Last year we had a lot of senior groups bring their homes in and different teams, so like a group of 20 would come through each day and they get to hang out and hold little chickens and stuff in their hands, you know it’s really therapeutic for a lot of people."

Opening hours on Canada Day are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Every entry gets a free airbrushed tattoo.
