Paint pottery for Canada Day and proceeds will go to the SPCA

Pottery painting for SPCA

Work of Art Pottery Studio Ltd. in Kelowna is hosting a Canada Day fundraiser for the BC SPCA tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cheryl Gawley, owner and operator of Work of Art Pottery Studio Ltd. tells Castanet that she's made 153 maple leaves in honour of Canada's 153rd birthday for residents to come and paint.

Each clay bisque leaf can be purchased for two dollars, and Gawley will donate all proceeds to the animal shelter in Kelowna.

"I picked the BCSPCA because animals are near and dear to me," says Gawley. "The work they do is very important and I want to support them in some small way."

She has a dog and at times brings the pup to hang out around the studio.

The pottery studio just opened its doors in February of this year, a few weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic really hit the Okanagan.

"Made it through the worst of COVID 19 with the support of the Kelowna and area community. They remember me during and after all of the closures. I want to give back to a community that gave to me."

Gawley says this promotion is to show they're proud to be Canadian and it was the best way to support each other through these tough times.

"People are invited to purchase one for $2, paint it and then I will fire it in the kiln and in a few days, they will have a work of art."

There is plenty of space at the studio but she will be limiting the number to 50 people at a time to practice proper social distancing measures.
