Cat owner finds top part of his cat left in Glen Matera Park

More concerned Kelowna citizens have come forward to try and help find out what is going on after several mutilated cats have been discovered over the past few days.

Kerry and Brandon Panopoulos own TKI Construction and have partnered with Darren Pierce who owns a Mr. Lube in Kelowna are offering, "a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for these current attacks."

Brandon Panopoulos tells Castanet he's seen this type of thing before in Kelowna and feels it's important to step up to try and get to the bottom of the story, "I do believe there may be a person behind these acts and when you kill a domestic animal that trusts humans, that is one of the worst things a person can do in my opinion."
 
Panopoulos says the offer is good for any future attacks that happen in Kelowna or Lake Country, where it is proven that the deaths are caused by a human but the perpetrator is unknown.

"We are extremely concerned about any acts of cruelty against animals and to read this news periodically over the last few years has been nothing short of heartbreaking. We want to do something that may help to put an end to these vicious attacks happening in the community," says Panopoulos.

Another cut-in-half cat has been found in a Kelowna park.

Ray Peron says his cat, Mouse, went missing Saturday night in the Glen Park Dr. area and then he received a phone call from a stranger saying they had found his cat, at least what was left of her.

"I got a call because her collar was still on and the body was left in Glen Matera Park but from her front legs back, her face was there, her shoulders were there, and then there was nothing."

Peron says "even the spine was gone." He has already buried Mouse and was content to write it off as a coyote killing until he saw the story on Castanet about another cat that was also found in half and he began to reconsider.

"I don't know what a coyote kill looks like but I'm pretty sure when a coyote takes a cat they take it away and eat it somewhere else. They don't leave them around and this was left right in the park," Peron tells Castanet.

Peron is now concerned that someone may be going around, torturing, mutilating and killing cats in Kelowna.

Another concerned citizen has come forward and offered a $250 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for either of these gruesome incidents.

Residents are being advised to remove any attractants from their yards and be careful with small pets.

Kelowna is home to all sorts of wildlife that could be potentially dangerous to pets, including coyotes, bears, and raccoons. Even owls have been known to eat cats and other small pets.
