Residents will soon be able to hit their favourite work out spot with gym closures being lifted next week.
As of May 19, Interior Health will allow fitness centres, gyms, yoga studios or similar personal training facilities to open, but under certain conditions.
The order, issued April 2, is being rescinded in accordance with B.C.’s Restart Plan Phase 2 and will allow facilities to re-open as long as they can meet requirements to protect staff and clients against the spread of COVID-19.
Any facility wishing to resume operation must develop a plan based on measures laid out by the Provincial Health Office.
Fitness facilities must control access, limit occupancy, place signs at entrances to notify patrons that they should not enter if they have symptoms of COVID-19, screen arriving patrons for coronavirus, encourage social distancing protocols, use appropriate disinfectants and several other conditions.
Guidance for facility operators and for the public related to gyms and other fitness facilities is now available on the Interior Health website.
Additional guidance for facility operators will come from WorkSafeBC.
Members of the public with any questions can call the non-medical COVID-19 phone line at 1-888-COVID19 (268-4319).
