Pacific Coastal Airlines will resume service next month

Regional airline flies June 1

Some good news for at least one small, regional airline.

Pacific Coastal Airlines confirmed on social media Monday they will return to the skies June 1.

The regional airline suspended service on March 25 due to concerns surrounding COVID-19.

The suspension of service was later extended to May 31, as the company said there was a need to be "socially responsible during the state of emergency that was declared in our province."

While the airline will return to operation, officials note it will be with a reduced schedule with many enhanced safety practices to ensure the health and well-being of customers, staff and the communities they serve, the press release noted.

Typically, Pacific Coastal offers flight from Kelowna to Cranbrook and Victoria.

"Our intention is to help provide air service for essential service workers, move important goods and cargo, provide access for customers who need to travel for various medical appointments (unrelated to COVID-19) and continue to offer remote communities access to the essential service of air travel should they require it."

Officials say they will continue to update social media platforms with additions safety measures and details on their gradual return to scheduled service.
