Flooding reported in Pacific Court area as Mill Creek overflows

Mill Creek spills its banks

Mill Creek spilled its banks in Kelowna this morning, causing flooding in the Pacific Court area.

Water could be seen on street, at the entrance of an apartment building and was ankle deep in a parking area under the building.

"Same building as a couple years ago, only worse!" one area resident tells Castanet.

Flooding was also reported in the Buckland Avenue and Ellis Street area.

"I walked down Sutherland Avenue this morning towards Pandosy, and Mill Creek is starting to flood," said Carolyn Wray.

"The water level has come up overnight to lapping at the bottom of the foot bridge. There was already an RCMP cruiser on scene and one homeowner was unloading sandbags from the trunk of her car. The water is creeping onto one of the condo properties and into the parking lot of the Pandosy Food Basket."

"The street and parking lots are a lake," said another resident.

"As well, the creek is flooding all the way down past Pandosy. Behind the Canadian Mental Health building, the water is at the bridges.

George Iots says firefighters and police "came and alerted everyone, as well as helped with placing sandbags at condo entrances" on Pacific Court and Sutherland.
