FreshCo set to open Kelowna grocery store next week

FreshCo set to open

As businesses across the country close their doors, either voluntarily or through a health order, at least one company is opening new locations.

FreshCo, the discount grocery chain under the Sobey's umbrella, will open its Kelowna store Thursday, May 7.

The grocery store will open at 8 a.m. in the former Safeway location in the Dilworth Shopping Centre.

FreshCo had been scheduled to open up earlier in the year, but the date had to be pushed back twice.

In an email to Castanet News confirming the opening date, company officials say they are moving ahead during these uncertain times to ensure the community has access to the food and pharmacy necessities they require for their families.

"There is nothing more important to us than the health and safety of our teammates and our customers. We are working closely with public health, and have implemented a number of safety and physical distancing measures to protect our employees, customers, and communities," they state in an email.

"Our new FreshCo will also help meet an immediate community need for more shopping options, lightening the burden on other grocery locations in the area. We believe now more than ever, FreshCo’s low prices and diverse product offering will help customers in Kelowna make every dollar count."
