What do restaurants do when hospitals can't accept food donations

Saying thanks through food

The owner of Kelowna's two Pita Pit franchises wanted to do something to say thank you to front-line workers at KGH who are being swept off their feet during the COVID-19 crisis.

The answer seemed simple enough for Pavneet Singh - deliver free food to staff at the hospital.

However, during the pandemic that is gripping the world, Interior Health is not allowing any outside donations to come into the hospital.

"We want to help the people who are putting their life on the line for us," said Singh.

"We wanted to bring some food, but they said we couldn't bring food in from outside."

So, he's doing the next best thing.

"We decided to offer 50 per cent off for front line workers, nurses, doctors who are working in the hospital."

The offer is also extended to others, including RCMP, firefighters and paramedics.

It is good at both Pita Pit restaurants on Bernard and on Innovation Drive across from the airport.

Both locations are open for pick-up orders and delivery.
