There was a single-vehicle fire in by Poplar Point in Kelowna on Sunday afternoon around 1 p.m.

Two fire trucks and an RCMP cruiser responded to a call of a vehicle fire in a resident's driveway in the 200 block of Poplar Point Dr.

“Someone called and said there was a car on fire beside a house. On arrival we saw flames coming from underneath a parked vehicle starting to impinge the exterior of the house,” says Platoon Captain Kelly Stephens of the Kelowna Fire Department.

He says crews knocked down the fire fairly quickly and they did not have access into the house.

"Crews strategically extinguished the car fire and contained the fire from entering the structure."

The fire damaged some of the soffiting on the outside of the home. Stephens says the car was badly damaged and is a write-off.

The garage door also saw some darkening from the flames but nothing structural was damaged. Stephens says this incident is deemed not suspicious.

“It appears that the car was on a battery charger and we’re looking into that right now," said Stephens.

Stephens also confirms there were no injuries as the tenants were not home at the time of the fire.
