Large number of officers searching in East Kelowna

RCMP comb through woods

UPDATE: 3:10 p.m.

An East Kelowna resident said a dozen RCMP officers are still looking through the wooded areas around O'Reilly Road Saturday afternoon, appearing to look for evidence.

The resident said the officers have since moved to nearby Dunsmuir Road, where they're walking with large sticks looking at the ground.

While it's unclear what the officers are looking for, the search could be related to the murder that happened late Tuesday night in the Upper Mission area of Kelowna.

ORIGINAL: 12:40 p.m.

A large number of police officers have gathered in East Kelowna Saturday afternoon, and they appear to be looking for something, or someone.

A resident of O'Reilly Road says there are 12 unmarked RCMP vehicles on the street, and officers are combing through a nearby wooded area.

Another Castanet reader said they saw a large group of officers on East Kelowna Road, near the East Kelowna Ball Fields.

While it's unclear what the officers are investigating, Kelowna's first murder of 2020 occurred last week, just before midnight on Tuesday.

Police have not disclosed much information on the investigation, but on Wednesday, they said they hadn't made any arrests.

Castanet has reached out to the Kelowna RCMP for more information about the investigation on O'Reilly Road.
