West Kelowna, Peachland, Lake Country close public facilities

Facilities closed to public

A new wave of closures of public facilities took place Wednesday in the Central Okanagan, with Peachland, West Kelowna, Lake Country and the regional district all taking steps to combat the spread of the coronavirus. 

Peachland has closed all its facilities to the public and suspended recreation services effective Thursday. The public is asked to perform business electronically or by appointment only.

The District will post a daily Facility Briefing on the District website that will include a list of municipal buildings and the service level currently provided. 

In West Kelowna, the municipality has restricted public access its city hall and is asking the public to continue doing business with it via phone or email. 

“Keeping our community and our staff safe remains our top priority and, as much as we always want to welcome the public into city facilities, we must all work together to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” said Mayor Gord Milsom.

The District of Lake Country closed several municipal properties Wednesday.

These include:

  • Winfield Arena
  • Winfield Curling Club
  • Creekside Theatre
  • Seniors Activity Centre
  • Lake Country Museum
  • Beasley Community Centre

Lake Country municipal hall does remain open and all essential services are being maintained.

However, the municipality urges residents to access services and information online and use email and phone to contact staff members whenever possible.

The Regional District of Central Okanagan is shutting down several public facilities, and cancelling some programs and events.

As of 5 p.m. today, the following will be closed indefinitely.

  • The Environmental Education Centre for the Okanagan
  • The Westside Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant
  • Joe Rich Community Hall
  • Ellison Heritage School Community Hall

All regional parks programs and events, as well as bookings in parks facilities are cancelled until further notice.

All regional parks do remain open at this time, however, for the safety of everyone please practice social distancing to help reduce any potential spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The regional district office on KLO Road also remains open, but people are urged to access information on the district's website whenever possible, use phone or email to contact staff members and use online options for all payments.
