Officer attacked while trying to arrest man at wastewater plant

Cop assaulted during arrest

A man is in custody after allegedly assaulting a police officer Sunday.

The Kelowna RCMP were called to the wastewater treatment plant on Raymer Avenue just after 5:30 p.m. for a report for three people climbing a fence at the facility.

Officers arrived and detained a 33-year-old Kelowna man for break-and-enter, but he refused to cooperate. He was then arrested for obstruction, at which point he allegedly started punching and kicking an officer.

Backup arrived and the man was subdued and taken to the Kelowna RCMP detachment where he continued to attempt to assault police.

The man has since been released from custody and the Crown is considering charges. His name is not being released at this time.

“The officer involved received minor injuries as a result of this incident and did not require medical treatment,” said Cpl Jocelyn Noseworthy.
