Kelowna restaurant transforms into office with CoWorkanagan

CoWorkanagan opens soon

A one-of-a-kind co-working space is opening up in Kelowna's Lower Mission – operating out of Playa Del Sol Resort's restaurant, Basil & Mint.

"This is a trend that has started in New York City, Los Angeles and Paris, so we're bringing a big city thing to Kelowna," says Dustin Blondin, co-founder and managing director of CoWorkanagan.

Basil & Mint doesn't open until 5 p.m., so the work space will be open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The new space will be open Feb. 10.

"The restaurant is such a beautiful place that sits empty all day, so we figured that adding an office space would be good," says Blondin. "The environmental impact is very low due to the fact that we're not actually building anything."

"It feels less commercial and less industrial than a lot of the other co-working spaces do," says Blondin. "We're trying to do what Airbnb does and what Uber does – we're creating more of a share economy within the workspace and office industry."

The dining room transforms into the main workspace, featuring 16 booths, 16 tables, and eight bar seats. The private meeting room can accommodate a maximum of 20 people, with lunch catering available.

Complimentary coffee and tea is available with membership, along with snacks, printing services and more. For more information on memberships, click here.

CoWorkanagan will host an open house on Saturday, from noon to 2 p.m. Free tickets are available here.
