Kelowna team continues animal rescue mission in Australia

Saving roos one at a time

A week into a mission to rescue and save as many animals as possible in wildfire-ravaged Australia, Kelowna animal rescue specialist Brad Pattison and his team show no signs of slowing down.

"It's exhilarating, and draining, and exciting and heartbreaking all in one," Pattison said in one of several Facebook videos.

"The emotional rollercoaster we all go through is insane, but I'm just grateful that you're all with us."

The team has spent the past week in the devastated area of New South Wales.

They have been rescuing as many injured kangaroos and other animals as possible.

"You can smell the decay of so many animals," he said on one trek to find an injured roo.

During one rescue this week, Pattison and his team were told to evacuate while trying to save a badly burned and injured kangaroo.

"Yeah, we're putting ourselves in harm's way ... but to save this animal."

"The roo we rescued yesterday is doing really, really well. That's what it's about. It's about all these animals and saving them."

The injured animals are taken to a compound where they are treated and fed.

Pattison also took a moment to thank those who have helped fund the rescue mission.

You can help through Facebook or their GoFundMe page.
