Environment Canada says temperatures far from coldest in Valley

Cold 'nowhere near record'

It may feel really cold in the Okanagan right now – but this week's temperatures are nowhere near the coldest temperatures on record for the Valley.

On Sunday night, temperatures in Kelowna dipped to -17 C near the lake, -18 C near UBC Okanagan, and -22 C near the airport. 

While it may be bone chilling, Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says the coldest temperatures on record for this date are between -27 and -28 degrees.

Lundquist expects overnight lows to be in the -20-23 C range for another two nights. 

"It's not a long time, but just long enough to remind us that we're Canadian," he says.

Temperatures will warm up as the week goes on, and could approach zero by Monday or Tuesday next week.
