Male in his 40's dies in alleyway behind Kelowna Gospel Mission

Coroner: 'no foul play'

The B.C. Coroners Service has confirmed a male in his 40s died Thursday morning on the 1600 block of Water Street. 

An investigation will determine how, where, when and by what means he came to his unexpected death. 

Kelowna RCMP says they received the emergency call at approximately 9:39 a.m.

The man was deceased by the time they arrived at the location, and foul play is not suspected. 

“At this time, criminality is not suspected in the man’s death and therefore the BC Coroners Service have taken the lead in this investigation," states Const. Lesley Smith of Kelowna RCMP. 

The name of the deceased will not be released due to privacy. 


UPDATED: 11:55 a.m.

Kelowna Gospel Mission volunteers manager Sonja Menyes can confirm an emergency call about a body found behind the mission was not made by anyone at the organization.

She believes the deceased was not associated with, or a client, of the mission.

Menyes stated that security footage from the mission may not reach the area of the incident, as it is limited to the perimeters of the building.

RCMP have not yet requested security footage from the mission.

A body was found Thursday morning in a building under construction behind the Kelowna Gospel Mission.

By 11:15 a.m, the body had been removed from the premises by the Coroners Service, who attended the scene along with paramedics and RCMP. 

No further information is available at this stage about the identity of the deceased or details of the death. 

Construction workers on the scene would not comment on the incident.
