71 months sought for teacher who had sex with student
Furman sentencing begins
The sentencing hearing for a former Mount Boucherie Secondary School teacher began in Kelowna court, Monday.
Bradley Furman previously pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a young person and attempting to obstruct justice following a relationship with a grade 12 student. He also faced charges of multiple breaches of his bail conditions.
Crown attorney David Grabavac requested Furman be sentenced to 71 months during the first day of the sentencing hearing, which is expected to last two days.
Grabavac went into detail about thousands of messages between Furman and the student, some of which were too sexually explicit to repeat.
The student met with Furman on multiple occasions on school grounds and at his residence to have sex, which was revealed through the messages.
It is believed that Furman was either 28 or 29 and the student was only 17 when the relationship began.
The defence will make its submissions before a ruling is made on his sentence.
