Truck crashes into Rutland Tim Hortons and catches fire

Fiery crash into Timmie's

UPDATE: 10:45 p.m.

Everyone inside the Tim Hortons at Highway 33 and Hollywood escaped a harrowing situation Monday evening.

Shortly before 10 p.m., a pickup truck slammed through the front doors of the restaurant.

Kelowna Fire Department Platoon Captain Kelly Stephens says a fire broke out in the area between the truck and an adjacent car.

Despite the wreckage, all four employees and three customers were able to get out safely without injury.

"The driver is being looked at by BC Ambulance," said Stephens.

"Firefighters got in there quickly and made sure the flames didn't extend into the building. There is no extension of the fire except for the truck that is inside the building."

The driver was the lone occupant of the truck.

Stephens says it's not clear what caused the incident.

That investigation will be handled by the RCMP.

Fire crews were venting the building, however, it is expected the restaurant will be closed for several days.
