Santa trades sled for kayak in Kelowna on Okanagan Lake

Santa trades sled for kayak

The weather on Sunday in the Okanagan brought all kinds of people out to enjoy the outdoors.

Even Santa was spotted paddling on Okanagan Lake. Perhaps the jolly fellow is looking for alternate ways to whip around the world while dropping toys for children.

"Global warming and rising seas. Less snow, more water. Santa gets it. Time to trade in the sled and reindeer for a kayak and swans to deliver presents. Swans were born to fly. Huge wings, greater and faster lift capacity than reindeer. And, they are used to long migratory travel. The kayak? A big aerodynamic advantage over the sled and, it floats."

Kelowna photographer, John Gomes, spotted George Mapson of Kelowna, on Okanagan Lake on Sunday afternoon, getting in a few practice runs with the swans. The team looks ready for the big day.

Hopefully the forecast for the next few days will allow for a few more practice runs. Sunday's temperatures of 3.7 C, quite pleasant for mid-December, with more sun than clouds and highs around the freezing mark and overnight lows will be minus 6 C for the next few days.
