Greenway reopens as Mission Creek ice stabilizes

Greenway open after icejam

A half-kilometre section of the Mission Creek Greenway has been reopened after a dangerous icejam has cleared.

"The unseasonal ice buildup in the creek appears to have stabilized over the past few days so that the recreational trail on both sides of the creek can be used once again between the Gordon Drive and Lakeshore Road bridges," the Regional District of Central Okanagan reports.

Visitors should be aware that depending on the weather, water levels and ice conditions in the creek could change rapidly.

However, the Gordon Drive Bridge south side underpass will remain closed as a precaution.

Visitors are asked to stay on the trails and well away from the banks and ice in the creek.
