A campaign to fund a class action suit against the city is gone

GoFundMe now NoFundMe

A campaign to raise enough money to start a class action lawsuit against the City of Kelowna has disappeared as fast as it appeared.

The GoFundMe campaign was established less than a week ago looking to raise $50,000 to fund the suit.

It called for donations "to help us raise funds to initiate a class-action lawsuit against the City of Kelowna for damages to our community incurred as a result of inaction, incompetence, and ineffectiveness in dealing with the sick, drug addicted, intoxicated, violent, and often thieving homeless people on our streets."

The fund, created by a "fed up Kelowna resident" going by the name of Buddy Booty, had yet to receive a single donation over its first 20 hours.

The campaign, which also called for no more open drug use, property crime, needles or intimidation, was launched immediately after the city's decision to move the Leon Avenue tent city to two parks in the north end.

It's not clear when the campaign was dismantled, however, a link on Castanet's original story goes to a GoFundMe page that states "Campaign Not Found."
