“Get your skis shined up...”

It's been seven long months since the chairlifts were spinning at Big White, but opening weekend is just two weeks away.

Plaza Chair, Ridge Rocket and Lara’s Gondola will start spinning on the morning of Thursday, Nov. 28, followed by opening weekend celebrations on Nov. 30.

Last season, Big White opened up with a base of 66 centimetres, but it remains to be seen how much snow will fall over the next two weeks. The resort will open as many runs as the snowpack will allow for.

Opening weekend celebrations will kick off on the Saturday with fireworks and live music.

"The village dances with lights, there is live music and the most spectacular fireworks show lights up the sky in the Village,” said Bethan Wetheral, Big White's guest services manager. “Grab your friends and family a cup of warm hot chocolate and come see the magic for yourself.”

Opening day will also see the debut of eight new cabins on Lara’s Gondola.

"When was the last time you rode in an $80,000 chariot to the village?" said Michael J. Ballingall of Big White.
