Kelowna hockey community supports Canadian Blood Services

Hockey gives blood

Kelowna's local hockey community is encouraging people to donate blood through the Hockey Gives Blood initiative.

Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, NHL alumni, Leif Mattson with the Kelowna Rockets, local coaches and parents will be supporting the initiative to give blood on behalf of Connor Morcom.

Morcom was only eight years old when he was diagnosed with medulloblastoma (a type of brain cancer) four years ago.

During treatment Morcom experienced more than 25 blood and platelet transfusions but today, he is 13-years-old and is in remission.

The Hockey Gives Blood initiative is a non-profit which is dedicated to encouraging people within the hockey community to help save lives by ensuring Canadian patients have the blood products they require.

The event will be held at the Kelowna Fixed Donor Centre at 103-1865 Dilworth Drive.
