Bios on competing chefs at Canada's Great Kitchen Party

Canada's Great Kitchen Party comes to Kelowna Nov. 15.

The event is a regional qualifier for the Canadian Culinary Championships and will be hosted by Olympic gold medalist Kelsey Serwa at the Delta Grand Hotel.

It will feature seven chefs from around the Okanagan, and Castanet is featuring bios on all of them, leading up to the event.

Chef Rob Walker - Big White Ski Resort

Chef Rob Walker joined Big White Ski Resort as executive chef in the 2016-17 season after working as executive chef at many Okanagan-area restaurants, including Liquidity Bistro, Mica Restaurant and Bonfire Restaurant.

With more than 20 years of culinary experience, Chef Walker has been a leader in farm-to-table dining experiences in the Okanagan and has been instrumental in improving and restructuring the food scene at Big White.

He is passionate about growing Canada’s culinary industry and is an active chef mentor and provides support to Okanagan College’s Culinary Arts department as a chef instructor. He offers guidance to industry newcomers, facilitating the development of new skills, culinary techniques, and procedures.

He is an active culinary competitor and award-winning chef who also competed in the 2016 Gold Medal Plates semi-finals in Victoria, where he was up against nine other BC-based chefs.
