OK Corral fundraiser to benefit man pinned under hay bale

Fundraiser for 'stand up guy'

Friends and family of an Okanagan man injured in a workplace accident in Alberta this week are holding a fundraiser in his honour Friday.

Andy Bowie owns the OK Corral in Kelowna and says Cody Petrone is a stand-up guy.

Petrone was crushed by a 1,000-pound hay bale and is in Foothills Hospital in Calgary.

"He used to spend quite a bit of time around here, helping out however he could. He was always hanging around here, two-stepping," says Bowie. "When we saw he had that accident, we wanted to help out."

Petrone spent eight hours pinned beneath the massive hay bale in -15 C temperatures.

The latest post on a GoFundMe page indicates he is now breathing on his own. The fund has already surpassed its original goal of raising $7,500 but people are touched by his story and those that know him want to help in any way they can.

Bowie says he will be donating 100 per cent of the door money raised to Petrone.

"Our flashback Friday is pretty popular. It's a mix of all genres of music. We'll get the money to his mom, who is in Westbank. Cody grew up over there and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone whoever needed it, so we want to return the favour."
