Okanagan College wants females in engineering and technology

Career fair targets women

Okanagan College will focus on women when it conducts its annual career fair next month in Kelowna.

The college wants to increase the number of females who take up engineering, technology and technician occupations, so it will introduce a new presentation at its 38th annual career fair on Sunday, Nov. 3.

The new presentation is part of Advancing Women in Engineering and Technology, a Sector Labour Market Partnerships project funded by the province of B.C. and Government of Canada.

“It is important to encourage and support women to pursue careers in engineering and applied science professions,” Association of Consulting Engineering Companies British Columbia project leader Marcie Cochrane said in a press release. “When we include women, there are numerous benefits, including increased innovation, improved problem solving, stronger employee engagement and an enhanced sense of belonging for everyone, not just women.”
