Hwy 97 clear after crash

UPDATE: 7:45 p.m.

The drive from Kelowna to Vernon took an hour and half Friday evening following a collision near Commonwealth Road about 3:30 p.m.

Northbound traffic was bumper to bumper on the highway for hours as well as on Glenmore Road as drivers attempted to avoid the highway congestion.

As of 7:45 p.m., Google traffic was showing traffic flowing normally again.

UPDATE: 4:55 p.m.

If you're heading north from Kelowna this evening, it's slow going.

The evening commute is backed up for kilometres on both Highway 97 and Glenmore Road because of a collision on the highway near Lake Country.

Google Traffic shows very slow movement from the UBC Okanagan campus to Commonwealth Road northbound on Highway 97, and from McKinley Landing north on Glenmore.

ORIGINAL: 3:30 p.m.

Traffic has been reduced to single lane in both directions resulting from a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 just south of Lake Country.

The crash occurred between Commonwealth and Beaver Lake roads.

Debris from both vehicles can be seen strewn all across the highway.

Emergency crews are on the scene.

Witnesses say traffic is backed up in both directions.
