Several dozen election signs headed for Kelowna landfill

An election graveyard

It seems the City of Kelowna works yard is the place where election signs go to die.

Many dozen signs of all political stripes were discovered recently along with other junk and garbage destined for the landfill.

It's not clear as of yet why the signs were collected, from where, or why the candidates were not contacted.

Specific rules were put in place by the city to let candidates and their representatives know where signs can and cannot be placed.

Bylaw officers pick up signs placed illegally on city property, while the parks department does the same where signs are set up against the bylaw in city parks.

Both departments contact the campaigns to let them know the signs are there.

In this case, candidates say they were not notified.

Representatives for Tracy Gray picked up at least 40 from the garbage pile.
