Granny and scooter driver get into road rage scuffle

Road rage with a twist

Rob Gibson

It's a case of road rage with a twist.

The incident involves an elderly female driver in a VW Beetle and an older scooter rider – and the whole thing was caught on dash-cam video in Kelowna.

Vivian, who asked us not to use her last name, says the incident happened Tuesday on Glenmore Drive. She was heading northbound and wound up behind a transit bus before she could turn onto Summit Drive.

"I inadvertently, I have a sight problem, went into the bike lane and he went by me and said 'you're in the f***ing bike lane,' and then pounded on my fender before driving off. I went home and had a cry."

The dash-cam video caught the entire interaction, and an inspection of the passenger side fender shows the dent left behind by the blow. Vivian has taken the video to the RCMP and reported the incident.

Her next step is to begin the process of filing a claim through ICBC.

Vivian says she's not looking for revenge; she just wants help to identify the scooter driver who she described as "weatherbeaten."

The rider is wearing a helmet and high-visibility jacket, but there does not appear to be a licence on the vehicle.

"I just want to identify him because of his foul language. Somebody likely knows him, and he may have done this before."
