Cookies for a cause

All proceeds from purchasing a Smile Cookie at any Tim Hortons in the Central Okanagan this week support the YMCA Okanagan Strong Kids Campaign.

Children from the YMCA visited the Orchard Park Tim Hortons Tuesday afternoon to decorate some of the cookies used in the fundraiser.

"All of the money raised by Tim Hortons this week goes to providing nutritious snacks for kids," said YMCA Okanagan marketing and communications co-ordinator Jessie Billey.

"Every day in the Okanagan, we serve 540 children and one in four of these children rely on financial assistance to attend."

Each cookie is $1 and all proceeds go towards the campaign.

"Depending on the area, different owners will pick different organizations and charities, so this is our favourite and we're here to help the children," said owner of the Orchard Park Tim Hortons, Dawn Fiacco.

In the South Okanagan, Tims from Summerland to Osoyoos will donate the proceeds to the South Okanagan School Breakfast Club program. Each morning the program feeds students a nutritional breakfast to start their day out right.

"We have pledged $75,000 to donate in the next four years and hope to do it in three!" said co-owner Mitch MacMillan.

Cookies are available at all Tim Hortons locations until Sept. 22.
