Fire restrictions lifted

Open burning, fireworks and just about all manner of combustibles are now allowed in the Kamloops Fire Centre which includes all of the Okanagan.

Effective at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 18, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires will be permitted throughout the centre's jurisdiction, due to a decreased risk of wildfires in the region.

Use of the following equipment and activities will also be permitted:

  • fireworks, including firecrackers;
  • sky lanterns;
  • burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description;
  • binary exploding targets; and
  • tiki and similar kind of torches.

The rescinding of prohibition implemented earlier this year applies to all public and private land unless specified otherwise by local law.
