Food drive fills the need

The B.C. Thanksgiving Food Drive kicks off this week, collecting food across the province.

This is ninth consecutive year for the Central Okanagan Food Bank's participation

The event runs Sept. 16-21, with collection day on Saturday.

New this year, plastic bags will not be delivered to homes to fill and leave on donors' doorsteps for collection. Instead, leaflets are being dropped off at homes throughout the valley.

Leave your non-perishable donations on their doorstep for collection by 9:30 a.m. Sept 21.

Volunteers at the food bank will receive and sort the donations.

Debbie Morris, a 10-year volunteer, says, “It's heart-warming to see the many volunteers who each year devote many hours to helping restock the food bank shelves through this food drive each and every September.”

The BC Thanksgiving Food Drive began in 2009 in Burnaby and has now expanded provincewide, assisting dozens of food banks serving over 50 cities.

You can also donate in person at the Central Okanagan Food Bank, 2310 Enterprise Way, at food bins at various local businesses, or online at www.cofoodbank.com.
