Water restrictions lifted

Kelowna residents south of Mission Creek can start using water outdoors again, with the lifting of stage four watering restrictions Wednesday night.

The restrictions were put in place following a mechanical failure at the Eldorado pump station on Sept. 4. The repairs were completed quickly, but the well that collects water for distribution required cleaning, disinfection and testing to ensure drinking water met Interior Health standards before the pump station could be brought back online.

Customers can now return to stage one watering restrictions, which have been in place city-wide since June. Properties with an odd number address can water on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and those with an even address number can water on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

In a separate notice Wednesday, the City of Kelowna reminded residents emptying hot tubs and pools at the end of the summer, that using storm drains is prohibited to protect Okanagan Lake. Disinfectants such as chlorine, saltwater and bromine can damage the ecosystem. Pool water should be drained onto property over a long period of time.
