110 storeys for the fallen

Firefighters from across the Okanagan gathered at Kelowna's Landmark Centre Wednesday to climb 110 storeys in honour of the 343 New York City firefighters who lost their lives in the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

It's the second year the Kelowna Fire Department has hosted the fundraising event, and organizers were impressed with the turnout.

Twenty-three firefighters did the full climb of the 18-storey Landmark 6 building, with representatives from multiple locations, including Coldstream, Big White and Penticton.

Participating firefighters were required to make a minimum $20 donation.

All funds raised will go to Wounded Warriors Canada, helping to support and honour Canadian injured first responders and their families.
