Summer over, hockey's back

With hockey rinks starting to fill up again, it's becoming obvious that summer is coming to an end.

The Kelowna Rockets fired up their rookie camp at Prospera Place this week, with a whopping 160 players competing for selection to the WHL team's main camp.

On-ice sessions began Tuesday and will conclude on Friday, for the players born in 2003 and 2004.

"It's our biggest camp in about six years," said Assistant GM/Director of Player Personnel Lorne Frey. "Normally we only have 90 to 100 kids at this camp, but we're very excited to have a lot of good young players coming."

The Rockets start their pre-season Aug. 30 against the Victoria Royals at Prospera Place.

With the 2020 Memorial Cup being held in Kelowna, an exciting season is ahead for the Kelowna Rockets.

In the BC Hockey League, the West Kelowna Warriors kicked off their training camp on Monday, and their first pre-season game is Wednesday against the Penticton Vees, at Royal LePage Place.
