Police searching for stabber

UPDATE 9:01 a.m.

Kelowna RCMP are searching for a suspect following a stabbing Thursday night in the downtown core.

RCMP tell Castanet they received the call at 11:24 p.m. to assist  BC Emergency Health Services who were responding to a report of a serious assault which transpired in the 200-block Bernard Avenue near Water Street.

Police found an unconscious male in serious medical distress when they arrived.
 
The victim was rushed to hospital for urgent medical treatment and he remains in critical condition at this time.
 
“The Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit has assumed conduct over the investigation, which remains in its preliminary stages,” states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey of the Kelowna RCMP. “At this time, no arrests have been made, as police maintain the crime scene for examination, interview witnesses and canvass for video in the area.”

There has been a stabbing in downtown Kelowna overnight.

Ambulances responded to Bernard Ave. and Water St. Thursday night around 11:20 p.m. but were advised to wait for RCMP to arrive on scene before attending to the victim due to the violent nature of the incident.

Initial reports indicated a 17-year-old male was the victim of the stabbing.

The incident happened in a covered parking area off Water St. behind the Bank of Montreal Branch on Bernard Ave.
