Car show takes over park

Car enthusiasts jammed Kelowna City Park for the annual Boyd Autobody car show on Sunday.

Over 30,000 people came to see some 650 vehicles on display for the afternoon right beside Okanagan Lake.

General manager Methal Abougoush said the show started with just 40 cars outside their shop and has grown to the magnificent show people get to experience for free.

“Every year a little better, every year a little bigger… this is obviously our best year,” he said.

Last year, Abougoush says the show was bursting at the seams and was given more room to spread out in the park.

“We got some new sections going on, we have August Luxury Motocars… they brought out some beautiful exotic cars, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, rat rods and hot rods and all kinds of stuff,” he said.

A new section added this year put electric vehicles on display.

“We have electric car club here for the first time, Teslas, unique cars like that,” he said.

Abougoush says the most gratifying part of the show is being to give back to the Kelowna Foundation/Child Advocacy Centre. A 2005 Ford Mustang with co-sponsors Lordco & PPG was being raffled off with tickets for $25 and all the proceeds going to Kelowna Foundation/Child Advocacy Centre.
